Christmas Card

£12.00

The Society’s new Christmas card is a sketch by Charles Rennie Mackintosh – Chrismas Rose. (sic). The silver embossed card is a beautiful reproduction of the original sketch.

Helleborus niger, called the Christmas rose because of its winter blooms, was possibly sketched in winter 1894/95. The bowl shaped flowers are drawn from several viewpoints and at different stages of their lifecycle, a technique used in Ikebana, the Japanese art of flower arranging. One formalized flower is shown in highly structured architectonic plan, its five perfect petals spreading from its seed centre. Two semi closed flowers and a ripe seed-head overlap, partly superimposed on each other, lending vitality to this otherwise highly structured study.

Packs of 10 cards are available for £12.00. Each card is blank for your own greeting.
